Hair Salon Design

Recently I was approached by the loveliest client (well now client) about helping her design a small salon space she is getting ready to move into. I will say, while I spend the majority of my time working with residential spaces, I was so excited to take on this challenge! With this space, since I do not have a hair salon myself, we are taking a more collaborative approach than usual. I love to collaborate with my clients, however I also want to allow them to sit back and let me do the heavy lifting so to speak. This is a different scenario in that I need to know if the pieces I am selecting are functional for her daily business. I can tell you where to put your couch and how to hide your clutter for your everyday living, but where do you like to keep your color capes and blow dryer and shears to make it easy to chat with your clients and reach for your tools? It's actually more challenging than I anticipated! We have a pretty blank slate space to work with so without a doubt I can make it “prettier” but will it flow and make the business feel fun and relaxed and efficient?!

To start I created a couple of mood boards based on the overall look and feel we had discussed. You will notice in the pictures below that each board has a neon sign because we decided this is just such a fun space and well...it needs a neon sign! I never put those in a house, so I am pumped to be able to take a little extra fun flair into this project. The boards created both allow for clean and bright overall space to make it feel bigger. One was more light and airy and neutral, where the other is more bold and modern with extra pops of deep color and more heavy black pieces to contrast the while and lightness of the space. The client was most excited about the modern and bold option (as was I because it is different from what my personal style jumps to). We are still in the process of sourcing specifics and meeting with contractors for a couple build outs, but I cannot wait to see this beautiful space come to life! More to come!
